Sylvan Spirits: Finding Consciousness in Nature Through AI
By Pardesco • Digital Artist & AI Technology Explorer
The Origins: Where Technology Meets Memory
This collection emerged from a deeply personal place. I spent my early childhood winters at my family's remote eco lodge in Costa Rica, surrounded by untouched rainforest. Those formative years taught me to see the living spirit in nature—faces in tree bark, expressions in water patterns, consciousness hiding in plain sight.
As someone passionate about technology, I found myself drawn to exploring how AI could help capture and enhance these natural patterns I'd been seeing since childhood. Using ComfyUI and local Stable Diffusion installations alongside Midjourney, I developed a workflow that could generate and control pareidolic effects—the psychological phenomenon of seeing faces in natural forms.
The Creative Process: Bridging AI and Artistic Vision
Sylvan Spirits represents hundreds of hours of experimentation with AI tools, developing a unique workflow that gives me precise control over where and how faces emerge from natural elements. This isn't about letting AI create randomly—it's about directing these powerful tools to manifest a specific artistic vision.
Foundation Layer
Using Midjourney V6 to generate initial concepts and explore the latent space of natural forms that suggest facial structures without being explicit.
Refinement Process
Local Stable Diffusion with custom models allows for precise control over how these pareidolic elements integrate with photorealistic rainforest environments.
Technical Mastery
ComfyUI workflows enable complex node-based processing, giving me surgical precision in balancing the obvious and the hidden, the natural and the supernatural.
Final Resolution
Each piece is rendered at 4K resolution or higher, ensuring that the intricate details remain crisp whether viewed on screen or printed for physical display.
Featured Artworks from the Collection

"Whispers Amongst the Falls"
1/1 Edition • Solana Blockchain • Exhibited at Unfold Gallery, NFT NYC 2024
This piece holds special significance as it was selected for exhibition at Unfold Gallery during NFT NYC 2024. The waterfall simultaneously exists as rushing water and as a conscious entity observing the viewer. The interplay between the natural flow of water and the emergence of facial features creates a meditation on perception and presence.
Creating this piece brought me back to the waterfalls I knew as a child in Costa Rica, where I would spend hours convinced that the forest was watching me back. Now, through AI, I can share that sensation with others.

"Visage of the Wild"
1/1 Edition • Solana Blockchain
Multiple faces emerge at different scales throughout this composition—from the prominent central visage to subtle expressions hidden in individual leaves. This layered approach to pareidolia creates a viewing experience that evolves the longer you look, revealing new discoveries with each examination.
This piece required 147 iterations to achieve the perfect balance between the obvious and the subtle, ensuring that each face feels naturally integrated rather than superimposed.

"Nature's Mask of Passion"
1/1 Edition • Solana Blockchain
The vibrant greens and organic patterns in this piece create what viewers often describe as a "living presence." The face emerges from purely natural forms yet conveys deep emotion. The way light plays across the foliage creates subtle shifts in expression, making each viewing unique.
Collectors have noted that this piece creates different emotional responses depending on display conditions—from contemplative on OLED screens to energetic on bright LED displays.
Why This Work Matters
In an era where AI art is often dismissed as "prompting," Sylvan Spirits demonstrates the potential for genuine artistic control and intentionality when working with AI tools. This isn't about generating random images—it's about using technology to explore the boundaries between perception and imagination, between the natural world and human consciousness.
For collectors interested in the evolution of AI-assisted art, this collection represents an early exploration of controlled pareidolia—a technique that requires both technical mastery and artistic vision. As one of the first artists to deliberately engineer these effects using a combination of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and ComfyUI, I'm documenting not just artworks but a new creative methodology.

About the Artist: Randall Morgan (Pardesco)
Randall Morgan, working under the artist name "Pardesco" (derived from "Parametric Design Collaboration" during his time at DAAP), has been exploring the intersection of algorithmic, parametric, and AI-assisted art since 2017. His architectural education from the University of Cincinnati's prestigious College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning provided the foundation for understanding computational design and generative systems.
As a finalist in Claire Silver's AI Art Competition 4, Randall has demonstrated technical mastery in emerging AI tools including Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and ComfyUI. His work explores controlled pareidolia—the psychological phenomenon of perceiving patterns in random stimuli—using sophisticated workflows that bridge artistic vision with machine learning capabilities.
The Sylvan Spirits collection represents years of experimentation with AI-assisted creation, combining childhood memories from Costa Rica's rainforests with cutting-edge computational techniques. His exhibited work at NFT NYC 2024's Unfold Gallery demonstrates his position at the forefront of AI-assisted fine art, contributing to the evolving dialogue about human creativity and artificial intelligence.
